Seine Eltern waren Wilhelm Carl Friedrich Söhne und Wilhelmine Amalie geb. Koch (Nr. 145) &lt;sup&gt;1)&lt;/sup&gt;&lt;br&gt;1922 wohnte er in Emmerich im Rheinland und ging von dort nach Metz, wo er sich für 5 Jahre (vom 24.3.1922 bis 24.3.1927) bei der französischen Fremdenlegion verpflichtete. Bereits 4 Tage später war er in Algerien und nahm vom 28.3.1922 bis 14.6.1922 an einem Feldzug teil. Am 15.6.1922 kam er nach Marokko, wo er bis zu seiner Entlassung im Jahre 1927 bei 4 weiteren Feldzügen eingesetzt wurde. Am 17.4.1924 wurde er mit der Medaille Coloniale agrafe "Maroc" und vermutlich 1926 mit dem Orden Croix de guerre ausgezeichnet.&lt;br&gt;In seiner Entlassungsurkunde sind ein paar Angaben zur Person zu finden: er war 1,67 m groß, hatte blonde Haare und braune Augen. Darüber hinaus wird er als tatkräftig, ernsthaft, treu und kaltblütig beschrieben.&lt;br&gt;Am 22.4.1932 nahm er die französische Staatsbürgerschaft an. Laut Einbürgerungsurkunde war er zu diesem Zeitpunkt Arbeiter und wohnte in Laneuveville bei Nancy. Am 9.1.1933 heiratete er Yvonne Camille Veck (* 3.11.1908 in Nayemont-les-Fosses, + 2.12.1996 in Saint Die), mit der er zwei Kinder hatte.&lt;br&gt;Willy, der sich in Frankreich Guillaume Soehne nannte, starb am 26.4.1981 in Saint Nicolas de Port.&lt;br&gt;Laut Aussage seiner Nichte Anneliese Strey geb. Söhne hatte seine Familie gedacht, er sei tot. Erst im Jahre 2010 hat die Familie durch Erbenermittler erfahren, daß Wilhelm bzw. Guillaume in Frankreich lebte und zwei Kinder hatte.
